Unusual Sounds
As Matthew sat quietly, he began to notice the faintest whimpering from the puppies. Their cries were oddly high-pitched, almost melodic, unlike any sound he had ever heard from dogs before. The vet’s head tilted slightly as if he, too, noticed it. The strange sounds only deepened Matthew’s growing sense of unease.
