Without waiting for Matthew’s response, the vet turned to his assistant and barked an order. “Take these puppies to the lab immediately,” he instructed. The assistant moved swiftly, scooping up the puppies and heading for the door. Everything happened so fast that Matthew barely had time to react. “Wait!” he called out, his voice tinged with desperation, but the assistant was already gone, the door closing behind them.
