Adjusting Eyes
As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, Matthew noticed faint scuff marks on the floor, as if heavy cages had been recently moved. The room smelled faintly of disinfectant, masking any trace of what might have been here before. The emptiness of the cages felt haunting, leaving him wondering how many animals had passed through this place unnoticed. He needed to find where the puppies—and the other animals—had been taken.
