Ignoring Maddy’s protests, Derek retrieved an old laptop from a dusty shelf in the corner of the room. “If it’s not connected to Wi-Fi, it should be safe,” he reasoned, though his voice betrayed his uncertainty. Maddy shook her head but didn’t stop him. Joshua pulled a chair closer, his eyes glued to the screen as Derek inserted the USB drive.
