Rick had already tried opening the cockpit door using the rusted handle, but a light tug had no effect. It was completely sealed shut. The two men leaned into it together, putting all their bodyweight behind the effort, pulling with force and grit. Their arms strained—until finally, a loud metallic squeal echoed. The door began to give way, slowly but surely.
