A fascinated Bill

Bill crouched closer, peering at it with pure fascination. The creature’s rubbery skin was dotted with faint, pale spots, and its mouth—or what seemed like one—was a vertical slit lined with ridges. “It’s not a squid or an eel,” Bill said, poking it lightly with the tip of a knife handle. The strange being twitched but didn’t react further.
