Suddenly, her expression fell. “Oh dear,” she said softly, “I’m afraid I have some bad news.” Mark’s heart dropped. “What is it? Is Buddy okay?” The woman sighed. “According to our records, your dog was indeed here. But unfortunately, he escaped from our facility a few days ago. We’ve been searching for him, but so far, we haven’t had any luck.” Mark felt like he had been punched in the gut.
