He closed his eyes and listened. No hum. No buzz. No scratch or scrape. Hornets weren’t quiet, especially not in big numbers. Something this large should’ve had a chorus of insect noise inside it. But the attic air stayed still. Silent. The object didn’t even creak or shift. That silence made everything worse. It wasn’t just quiet. It felt… wrong.
