Climbing closer, John realized just how large the thing was. It looked like a duffel bag stuffed with insulation and dirt. Its surface was rough—almost woody—with strange fibrous strands crisscrossing it. It didn’t look papery like a typical nest. It looked tougher, more solid. The odd shape now felt more deliberate, as if something had built it on purpose—not by accident.
