Curious, John peeled back a bit of the outer shell. Instead of the papery layers he expected, he found thick, woven fibers. They felt too strong for insect work—almost like twigs mixed with string. There was also an earthy, musky scent coming from inside. It smelled more like a forest floor than a dry attic. Definitely not a hornet’s creation.
