The first officer climbed slowly, light scanning the attic. He paused, then whispered, “I see it.” In the far corner, the bear was hunched over, eyes glowing in the beam. It growled low. The second officer took aim and fired. The dart hit. The bear roared, rising to its full, towering height. Everyone held their breath. Would it go down in time?
