The bear swayed, roaring again—but it stumbled. The tranquilizer was working. Its legs gave out, and it slumped onto its side with a heavy thud. The attic shook slightly. “It’s down,” one officer confirmed. They climbed up and checked its vitals. “Sedated,” he nodded. “Let’s prep for extraction.” Down below, John finally exhaled, muscles loosening. It was almost over.
