The navy helped them gather what little they wanted to take. Some packed clothing, small trinkets, and carved tools. Others simply held onto their loved ones. “Are you ready?” Reynolds asked Kendrick’s father. He nodded, his eyes filled with gratitude. “More than ever.” With that, they began their journey back to the boats.
